INSPIRATION:
1. What inspired you for making the Designer Dog House?
1. The dog house is a shrunken down recreation of the Tudor Style houses in Lower Merion's English Village neighborhood. When I was a kid, my family drove past the neighborhood, close enough for me to see the houses' tips and rooflines above high hedges. I was in wonder. The half-timbered construction seemed of another, long-ago time. My dog house for Benevolent Hound and Lower Merion Conservancy is my tribute and thanks to the English Village.
2. What is unique about your Designer Dog House?
2. My design is not necessarily unique because I mimicked the design of Tudor Style houses. The challenge of recreating Tudor Style for a dog house was choosing the size of the house’s elements and how much detail to add to them. If I made the wood beams too wide the house would look like a cartoon. If I added too much texture on the roof tiles they would distract from the simplicity of the stucco. Ultimately, I hope the house is sweet and inviting, not a replica you’re scared to get dirty.
